My name is Alina.

Skye is a self-given name, which came to me from a lot of soul searching and realizing that I am a creator of my own destiny and that there are as many possibilities, as they’re stars in the sky. Skye was the name that came to me in a dream, one of the most profound dreams I’ve ever had, it holds several important meanings for me, it’s spelled that way for me to remember my purpose. My chosen name has 9 letters, in numerology it mentions several important aspects of it such as service to humanity, life purpose and soul mission. It strongly resonates with me.

I was born and raised in Estonia, until I was 15, when our family came to US.

Our country was going through a major shift, and it became very unsafe for us to remain there. My mom is one of the strongest women I know, somehow, she has found courage and strength, alone, with 2 children and 2 bags to leave everything behind and move forward into the unknown in hopes to give us a better future.

When I was growing up, I didn’t feel a lot of freedom for my own personal creative expression.  I had always been very visual and art was a source of escape for me, a portal into another world.  I also read a lot of books, my mom was a librarian and that offered me a great opportunity to read, as a child I was very fascinated with fairytales, it was another way for me to escape into this wondrous, magical world, so naturally I was always drawn to symbolism, surrealism and fantasy art.

There is a lot of symbolism in my art, I started using it subconsciously from personal life experiences, to somehow tell my story and through it find healing and inner peace.

I started to paint because I desperately needed an outlet to bring beauty into my world and express so many emotions I was feeling at that time.

Growing up in Estonia and then transitioning to US has given me a lot of inspiration for my paintings.  It has been an exciting, evolving and complicated journey.  For a while I felt very lost and displaced and I truly believe that art has helped to heal my soul.

When everything was dark and I didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel – I turned on the light within me.

I love using bright, vibrant colors to express energy, optimism, and life.

I strongly connect with the word Self-Made and deeply admire those who rose above and overcame extreme obstacles to not only survive but create an opportunity to thrive.

I am also currently studying therapy and feel it is my mission to help, inspire and uplift others to see hope and follow their inner light to break through and live meaningful and fulfilling lives.

I hope to inspire others with my art, to dream, to give you a sense of wonder and to notice beauty all around us.
